Week 4

Q.7 Look in detail at the terms and conditions for purchasing from your site. Are they reasonable? Comment on anything unusual or unreasonable that you find. What about returning goods? Describe the main mechanisms of support provided by your site. Do you think that it is better or worse than the competition? Explain your answer.

Propertypal advertises houses on their website that are for sale from companies and individuals accross Ireland and the Uk. Property Pal does not guarantee the price, terms, product, availability and or services offered by any advertiser. For all of the Services, Property Pal is not involved in any transactions between customer and any of its advertisers, and is not responsible for, and does not guarantee the price or performance of any goods, services or information provided by advertisers. I feel that property pal is a good way of buying, selling or renting a house or flat as their website is layed out very well so customers can look at the area they are looking too buy in just by looking on a map and typing in the postcode of the area. Customers can view the house they are looking to buy without even leaving their house if the have the internet as on property pal customers can view inside houses by looking at photos and videos inside the house. One good mechanism of support this website has too offer is that they have a text message program on offer to customers were they can text a unique number for the house they are looking at and they will get a text message back about the latest price of the proerty they are viewing. I have viewed a few proerty sales websites that are located in Northern Ireland and in comparsion i think property pal is lightly ahead as the websites i viewed only had email updates available for customers where as property pal has text updates. Another reason is that the layout of the website and the map that property pal is a good way of customers locating properties.

Q.8 Examine the registration process for your site, from the perspective of security. Is your data encrypted? What does this mean?

Property pal protect the security of the users information on its website during transmission by using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) software, which encrypts information you input. They only reveal the last five digits of customers credit card numbers when confirming an order and they transmit the entire credit card number to the appropriate credit card company during order processing. Property Pal maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards in connection with the collection, storage and disclosure of personally identifiable customer information. Their security procedures mean that they occasionally request proof of identity before we disclose personal information to its customers.

Q.9 Does the site use cookies? Explain how cookies are used in your site.

Proerty Pal use cookies in their website and a cookie is an element of data that a website can send to your browser, which may then store it on your system You can set your browser to notify you when you receive a cookie, giving you the chance to decide whether to accept it.
Property Pal cookies are used for the following purposes:

  • Completing the user’s current activity
  • Website administration
  • Research and development

Property Pal uses cookies as part of the mechanism to hold the contents of the shopping basket during each visit that customers make to the site, and they recommend that both permanent and session cookies be enabled.
